Georgie was referred to CP+R at the age of 20 following an Anterior ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) which resulted in an out of hospital cardiac arrest. Thankfully, Georgie survived but was left with severe impairment in her heart muscle, approximately half as strong as it should be.
Our Action Plan
Given Georgie’s age, she was keen to pursue university and a career but was concerned that her health would hold her back. Her condition left her very breathless doing little activity and unable to complete tasks that most would take for granted.
The plan we devised with Georgie was to facilitate her to return to normal daily activities and, in time, progress to being able to exercise in a safe and effective manner that would protect her heart long-term. Georgie’s adherence and determination to the process was admirable, and this investment led to significant improvements in her health. Georgie undertook sessions both at our Harley Street clinic and via our virtual service, which allowed us to ensure she was able to exercise safely without direct supervision in preparation for her attending work and university.
Georgie’s results
During her time with CP+R, Georgie significantly increased her muscle mass and strength, whilst improving also her body composition, all of which will help to reduce further cardiovascular disease risk.
Despite Georgie’s condition, we saw a 15% increase in her fitness levels, so much so that her peak fitness was near on normal for her age and gender. This eventually allowed Georgie to start steadily running and swimming to continue her recovery, something that was unthinkable in the early stages of her recovery.
We are so proud of the progress Georgie made and it has been a privilege to support her journey.
