Ed had always considered himself to be fit and healthy. He was aware his blood pressure could be high, but it came as a complete shock when he suffered a heart attack at the age of 56. Ed had to undergo emergency open heart surgery and received a quadruple bypass.
Our action plan
Understandably, Ed was struggling to come to terms with his cardiac event. When referred to us, his goal was to ensure he never suffered like this again by implementing a sustainable lifestyle model that he enjoyed. Ed’s action plan at CP+R was constructed into three phases: recovery, sustainability, health excellence.
During the first few months of working with Ed, we supported him to recover from his procedure. This meant improving mobility, supporting wound healing, managing new medications and returning gently back to work and general daily activities. Once Ed had made a complete recovery, using our 4 Pillar Model, we were able to work with him to begin building up strength and fitness to protect his heart for the long term. Ed adhered incredibly well to this and even at points had to be reigned in to ensure he did not overwork himself! Ed has now been able to consistently manage his health using exercise and nutrition and has become a huge advocate of lifestyle change to his friends and colleagues.
Edward’s Results
Ed’s results are testament his hard work and commitment since his cardiac surgery. Over one year, Ed was able to reduce his body fat by 3.2 kg, increase muscle mass by 1.8 kg, and perhaps most importantly his mental health scores have improved by 67%.
Ed is now comfortably able to complete regular 5km+ runs and undertakes high function resistance training, including pull ups and press ups.
